Firmly clenched fists can cut through gold! The Qixian Initiative: A New Path for the Development of the Jinzhong Carbon Industry
In the “landscape” of China’s aluminum-cathode industry, Jinzhong plays a pivotal role. Since the late 1950s, over the past six decades, Jinzhong City—with its more than 60 carbon product manufacturing enterprises—has captured over 75% of the global electrolytic aluminum industry’s market share, establishing itself as a major carbon production base in China. However, issues such as industrial homogeneity, fragmented competition, and the paradox of being large yet weak have become increasingly prominent, hindering the further growth and development of the industry. Particularly under the overarching context of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, and facing an increasingly saturated market demand, carbon enterprises in Qixian County, after thorough investigation and careful analysis of the situation, have taken the lead in the city to break with convention and overcome longstanding bottlenecks. They are pioneering a new approach by shifting from “going it alone” to “joining forces,” actively exploring models of enterprise clustering within industrial parks and establishing industry alliances. They are making tireless efforts to blaze a new trail for the development of the city’s carbon industry.

Both domestic and international demand are rising, and the use of petroleum coke for aluminum carbon products continues to increase.
In recent years, domestic demand for petroleum coke used in aluminum carbon products has been increasing year by year, and the amount of petroleum coke produced by domestic refineries that is used in aluminum carbon products has also been rising steadily. Currently, apart from a small portion of low-sulfur coke being used in graphite electrodes, negative-electrode materials, and carbon-increasing agents; a tiny amount of medium-sulfur coke being employed as filler material for negative-electrode materials; and some high-sulfur coke being substituted for coal by refineries as fuel or feedstock for hydrogen production units, the vast majority of domestically produced petroleum coke is still being utilized in the aluminum carbon industry.

Market Structure and Applications of Graphite Equipment
According to a report by the international research firm QYR, the global graphite heat exchanger market was valued at approximately US$473.9 million, or about RMB 3.3 billion. The market is projected to reach RMB 5.1 billion by 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.6%. According to data from China Industry Information Network, China’s heat exchanger market has been steadily growing, reaching a market size of roughly RMB 129.6 billion in 2020—a year-on-year increase of 11%. Given graphite heat exchangers’ excellent corrosion resistance, they are expected to gradually expand their market presence in sectors such as chemical engineering and pharmaceuticals. In 2019, China’s graphite heat exchanger market was valued at only RMB 1.39 billion, leaving substantial room for future growth.

In induction furnace melting, the application of carbon-increasing agents requires careful consideration; different carbon-increasing agents can significantly affect the properties of cast iron.
As environmental protection requirements continue to tighten and increasing attention is paid to resource consumption, the prices of pig iron and coke have been steadily rising, driving up casting costs. Consequently, more and more foundries are starting to adopt electric furnace melting as a replacement for the traditional cupola furnace melting process. In early 2011, our factory’s small- and medium-sized parts workshop also switched from the traditional cupola furnace melting process to electric furnace melting. Electric furnace melting allows for extensive use of scrap steel, which not only helps reduce costs but also enhances the mechanical properties of castings. However, the type of carbon-increasing agent used and the carbon-increasing process itself play a crucial role.

A New Star in Urban Subway Energy Conservation: Carbon-Fiber Subways
Carbon fiber is an inorganic, high-performance fiber with a carbon content exceeding 90%, produced by subjecting organic fibers to a series of thermal treatments. It is a new material boasting excellent mechanical properties, inheriting the inherent characteristics of carbon materials while also possessing the softness and processability of textile fibers. It represents a new generation of reinforcing fibers.

The Differences and Similarities Between Natural Graphite and Synthetic Graphite
Given that graphite prepared from natural graphite is typically what is referred to in the narrow sense as synthetic graphite, this article focuses solely on analyzing and discussing the differences and connections between natural graphite and synthetic graphite in the narrow sense.
NUST MISIS has developed a new material that can triple the capacity of lithium-ion batteries.
According to foreign media reports, scientists from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST MISIS) in Russia claim to have synthesized a new nanomaterial that can replace graphite—currently used in lithium-ion batteries with lower efficiency—thereby increasing the capacity of lithium-ion batteries and extending their service life.

Global acceleration! “Carbon neutrality” will shape a major shift in global investment over the next 40 years, benefiting electric arc furnace steelmaking.
As China joins the global effort toward “carbon neutrality” and with substantial subsidies for this policy following President Biden’s inauguration, the investment community believes that clean energy will become a key growth area over the next four decades. The market anticipates that global green investments will continue to expand. According to data from Morningstar, global funds aligned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles attracted $350 billion last year—compared to just $165 billion in 2019.
