On August 7, coinciding with the 24th anniversary of Betray Group’s establishment, the first phase of Betray Indonesia’s 160,000-ton-per-year negative electrode material project—comprising an annual capacity of 80,000 tons—officially went into operation. Attending the commissioning ceremony were President Joko Widodo of the Republic of Indonesia, Minister of Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Mr. Luhut, Minister of Coordinating Economic Affairs Mr. Airlangga, Minister of Manpower Ms. Ida, Minister of Investment Mr. Bahlil, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Mr. Arifin, Chairman of Betray Mr. He Xueqin, and Executive Vice Chairman and General Manager Mr. Huang Youyuan.
Indonesia’s BTR is Betray’s first overseas construction project and also the first negative-electrode facility in China’s industry to officially begin production and operations abroad, starting to supply products to customers worldwide. After the project goes into operation, it will help Betray better expand its reach and provide enhanced services to its overseas customers, further seize opportunities in the global new-energy market, and accelerate the transformation and green development of the global automotive industry.
At the commissioning ceremony, He Xueqin, Chairwoman of Betray, stated:
Currently, the development of new energy sources is attracting worldwide attention and holds epoch-making significance for improving traditional energy structures, driving economic growth, protecting the environment, and ensuring energy security. Betray will stay attuned to the pulse of the times, actively pursue a globalization strategy, and make positive contributions to building a green, harmonious, and sustainable world.
The completion and commissioning of the Betre Indonesia project have filled a gap in the field of lithium-ion battery anode materials, not only in Indonesia but throughout the entire ASEAN region, and have strongly promoted the development of Indonesia’s comprehensive lithium-ion battery industry chain covering the entire value chain of new energy.
Betray has maintained the world’s No. 1 market share in negative electrode materials for fourteen consecutive years. As a core manufacturer and supplier to leading global lithium battery companies such as Panasonic, Samsung SDI, LGES, SK On, CATL, and BYD, Betray’s main products include natural graphite, synthetic graphite, silicon-based negative electrode materials, and high-nickel ternary cathode materials. Betray’s products in Indonesia will primarily provide diversified battery material solutions for electric vehicles, consumer batteries, and energy storage batteries.
Industry data show that in 2023, China's exports of new-energy vehicles reached 1.203 million units, representing a year-on-year increase of 77.6% and setting a new historical record. Global shipments of energy storage battery cells totaled 210 GWh, up 70% from the previous year. Meanwhile, given the low penetration rate and vast growth potential in overseas markets, Europe and the U.S. have become key targets for many battery manufacturers and automakers seeking to expand their market presence, driving an increasing demand for localized production.
In addition to the Indonesia project, Betray’s 50,000-ton-per-year lithium-ion battery cathode material project in the Mediterranean region officially broke ground in April of this year. Upon completion, the project will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of lithium battery cathode materials, meeting the global demand for high-performance battery materials.
The official launch of Betray Indonesia’s production facility underscores Betray’s unwavering commitment to capturing the global new-energy market. Relying on its high-quality international customer base and extensive international operational resources, the company has not only taken the lead in enhancing the competitiveness of China’s anode material industry in the global market but has also injected fresh momentum and vitality into the development of the global new-energy sector.
