1. Important uses of graphite

Graphite (see Figure 1), after undergoing special processing, can be transformed into a variety of specialized materials and products. With the advancement of modern science, technology, and industry, the application fields of graphite have continued to expand, making it an essential raw material for new composite materials in high-tech industries and playing a critically important role in the national economy. The graphite-based products developed include six major categories: high-purity graphite, graphite emulsions, modified graphite, carbon-graphite composites, and graphene. Below is a brief introduction to the applications of these graphite products.
(1) High-purity graphite: Widely used in shielding and reflector materials for nuclear reactors, solid fuels, rocket nozzles, aerospace equipment parts, advanced refractory materials and coatings, pencil leads in the light industry, single-carbon brushes for electrical applications, electrodes in the battery industry, catalysts in the fertilizer industry, and more.
(2) Graphite emulsions: Divided into cathode-ray tube graphite emulsion, forging graphite emulsion, wire-drawing graphite emulsion, and energy-saving and friction-reducing additives, respectively used as conductive coatings for various components of color cathode-ray tubes, lubricants for metal forging and hot extrusion dies, cold casting coatings for metals, mold-release agents for glass bottle manufacturing, wire-drawing lubricants for metals, and friction-reducing additives for lubricating oils.
(3) Modified graphite: Modified graphite includes expandable graphite and flexible graphite, which are used in the production of heating agents for steel ingot casting, as well as in the manufacture of sealing fillers and gaskets.
(4) Carbon graphite: Primarily used in heat-resistant and refractory materials, thermal insulation materials, conductive and resistive materials, lubricating and wear-reducing materials, corrosion-resistant materials, as well as utensils and molds.
(5) Graphite crucible: Can be used for melting various metals.
(6) Graphene: The microstructure of graphene is shown in Figure 2. It can be applied to a wide range of fields, including electronics, aerospace, optics, energy storage, biomedicine, and daily life.
