On November 8, 2023, the 4th Session of the 7th Congress of Members of the China Carbon Industry Association and the Summit Forum on the Development of the Carbon Industry were held in Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. China Carbon Network also joined colleagues and friends from across the industry in Pingdingshan, working together to contribute to the advancement of China’s carbon industry!


The meeting will primarily focus on holding the 4th Session of the 7th Council to deliberate and finalize association-related matters; convening the Members’ General Meeting to review and approve the Association’s work report and the report on the use of association funds. The meeting will also feature keynote speeches by relevant experts on themes including steady growth and safeguarding development, addressing shortcomings while leveraging strengths, promoting green, low-carbon, and smart practices, fostering innovation and upgrading, and achieving high-quality development, followed by a summit forum on industry trends.

On the morning of November 8, the conference began with a speech by Chen Xiangping, Secretary of the Pingdingshan Municipal Party Committee, followed by an important address by Ju Zili, President of the China Carbon Industry Association. The speech highlighted that, over the past two years, economic globalization has been severely impacted, leading to a marked slowdown in global trade growth. From a global perspective, China’s economy has faced containment and suppression by a small number of developed countries; from a domestic perspective, it continues to grapple with triple pressures: overcapacity in most industries, “shrinking demand, supply shocks, and weakening expectations.”

The meeting released the performance of key economic indicators for member enterprises in 2022: In 2022, member enterprises achieved a total industrial output value of 44.018 billion yuan, an increase of 40.88% year-on-year; the total output of carbon products reached 7.0067 million tons, up 14.69% over the previous year. Specifically: graphite electrodes amounted to 733,400 tons, down 4.43% year-on-year; carbon anodes totaled 5.0853 million tons, up 15.84% year-on-year; carbon electrode products stood at 138,500 tons, up 46.99% year-on-year; special graphite products reached 103,100 tons, up 21.17% year-on-year; sales revenue totaled 44.387 billion yuan, an increase of 42.88% year-on-year; total profits reached 3.547 billion yuan, up 18.84% year-on-year; the total export volume of carbon products was 820,700 tons, up 13.86% year-on-year; among these, graphite electrode exports amounted to 137,900 tons, down 9.54% year-on-year; export earnings reached 1.378 billion U.S. dollars, up 50.99% year-on-year.
Huang Jianguo, Secretary-General of the China Carbon Industry Association, released the association’s financial revenue and expenditure report at the meeting.

Performance of Key Indicators for Member Enterprises from January to September 2023:
From January to September 2023, member enterprises achieved a total industrial output value of 29.22 billion yuan, down 4.6% year-on-year. The total output of carbon products reached 5.4482 million tons, up 7.29% year-on-year. Specifically: graphite electrodes amounted to 487,200 tons, down 2.87% year-on-year; carbon anodes totaled 3.9663 million tons, up 7.02% year-on-year; carbon electrode products stood at 135,500 tons, up 36.35% year-on-year; special graphite products reached 97,100 tons, up 7.76% year-on-year. Sales revenue totaled 30.877 billion yuan, down 7.68% year-on-year; total profits amounted to 1.327 billion yuan, down 53.81% year-on-year. The total export volume of carbon products was 491,100 tons, down 21.42% year-on-year. Among these, graphite electrode exports were 948 tons, down 12.10% year-on-year; carbon anode exports reached 371,200 tons, down 24.95% year-on-year. Export earnings totaled 724 million U.S. dollars, down 29.70% year-on-year.
The China Carbon Industry Association provided a brief review of its work for 2022 and the period from January to September 2023. Guided by Party building, the Association has been committed to promoting high-quality development, focusing on addressing and strengthening existing problems and shortcomings within the Association. It has diligently fulfilled its functional responsibilities, serving the industry and its members with practical and solid efforts. The Association has promptly assisted in coordinating and resolving difficulties and issues faced by enterprises, thereby comprehensively enhancing the quality of its work and service standards.
Subsequently, the association organized its member companies to visit and exchange ideas at the headquarters of Wuxing New Materials in the Semiconductor Industry Park.
